Essential Road Maintenance

Road maintenance is crucial to ensuring the safety and longevity of our transportation infrastructure. One of the key tasks in maintaining roadways is cutting the shoulders, which helps to ensure proper drainage of water off the roads. When the shoulder areas are kept clear of debris and overgrowth, it allows rainwater to flow freely away from the road surface, preventing pooling or water buildup that could damage the pavement over time. Proper drainage also reduces the risk of erosion, further extending the life of our roads and minimizing the need for costly repairs.

In addition to shoulder maintenance, regular mowing and sweeping are vital to keeping our roads in top condition. Mowing helps control vegetation that can obstruct visibility for drivers or encroach upon the roadway, ensuring safe driving conditions for all. Sweeping is another important aspect, as it clears away dirt, debris, and litter from road surfaces, improving the overall aesthetics and preventing the accumulation of materials that could cause hazards or affect road traction. By staying on top of these routine maintenance tasks, we are able to preserve the quality of our roads, enhance safety, and create a more pleasant environment for travelers.

Summer Projects

One of the most frequently performed summer road maintenance projects in our community is Chip Sealing. This essential process involves applying a thin layer of asphalt followed by a layer of aggregate to the road surface. Chip Sealing helps extend the life of the pavement, improving both the durability and safety of our roads. It also provides an economical solution for road resurfacing, reducing the need for more extensive and costly repairs. To better understand the process and its benefits, please refer to our detailed Chip Seal Fact Sheet, where you’ll find comprehensive information about the procedure, its purpose, and how it contributes to road quality and longevity.
